The Big Step Up – Learning More About Diabetes

Every year, in November, the American Diabetes Association promotes American Diabetes Month to help spread awareness for the disease. This year, the Association is promoting their new campaign “The Big Step Up” to help people take charge of their health by learning how to detect and manage diabetes early. The First Step – Take the Test

This year, the American Diabetes Association has developed an easy online test to help you determine if you are at risk for Type 2 Diabetes. Our care team loves this test because you can take it for yourself or for a loved one. This is great because a lot of our older clients have trouble accessing online tools.

Completing the test for your loved one will make it a lot easier to get the information you need to make a plan! This minute-long test asks questions about your age, gender, previous diagnoses, family history, and lifestyle. At the end, they let you know your risk factor and give you great tips on how to move forward!

Get Connected with Diabetes Experts

The American Diabetes Association is also hosting a series of virtual events throughout November. Talk with medical authors and ask health questions to leading diabetes experts right from the comfort of your own home. We love this opportunity because it lets people reach out easily and anonymously. And while our care team feels you should never be ashamed to reach out for medical help, we do appreciate the Association’s dedication to accessibility for all people.

Resources for Healthy Living

The team at the American Diabetes Association even put together a robust resource with all the tips you need to lead a healthy lifestyle. Their information on nutrition, exercise, and mental health is designed to help you either reduce your risk of Type 2 Diabetes or to help you manage it while living the life you want! Our caregivers love these resources because they are easy to read, are located all in one place, and were developed by health care experts.
